Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay was born on 25 September 1916 in a village named Nagla Chandrabhan in the holy Brajbhoomi Mathura of Uttar Pradesh. In his childhood, an astrologer had predicted by looking at his horoscope that in future this child would become a great scholar and thinker, a leading politician and a selfless servant but he would not marry.
Deendayalji had to endure a deep shock in his childhood when his brother died due to illness in 1934. He received his high school education in Sikar, present-day Rajasthan.
Pt. Deendayal passed his intermediate examination with distinction in Pilani. With the inspiration of his friend Shri Balwant Mahashabde, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1937. In the same year, he completed his B.A. Had also passed the examination in first division. After this M.A. Deendayal Upadhyay came to Agra for studies.
While serving Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Agra, he was introduced to Shri Nanaji Deshmukh and Shri Bhau Jugde. At the same time, Deendayalji’s sister Sushri Ramadevi fell ill and came to Agra for her treatment. But unfortunately he died. This was the second major shock of life for Deendayal. Due to which he completed his M.A. Couldn’t take the exam.
Deendayal Upadhyay Education
When Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay was young, his parents died and his education was under the tutelage of his aunt and uncle. After passing matriculation from Rajasthan, he did Intermediate from Bidula College in Pilani and did B.A from Sanatan Dharma College, Kanpur in the year 1939. Passed. He applied for a Masters in English at St. John’s College, Agra but could not complete his studies.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Yojana (DDU-JKY) aims to provide monthly wages equal to or above minimum wage to poor rural youth in jobs. It is one of the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India to promote rural livelihoods. Aajeevika is a mission for poverty reduction which is a part of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).
Through this scheme, more than 550 lakh poor rural youth have been prepared to become skilled. The importance of the scheme lies in its ability to reduce poverty. It is structured as a major contributor to the Prime Minister’s campaign ‘Make in India’.

- February 1968 Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay left for Patna from Lucknow in Sealdah Express.
- With ticket number 04348, Pandit ji got a seat in A compartment of first class.
- At 7 pm, UP Deputy Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta and MLC Pitambar Das came to the station to drop him.
- The train reached Jaunpur station at 12 o’clock, where Kanhaiya came to meet Deendayal ji with a letter from Jaunpur Maharaja. Pandit ji asked him to reply to the letter quickly and the train left from there at 12:12.
- The train reached Mughalsarai Junction at 2.15 pm and from there this coach was attached to the Delhi-Howrah Express. But when the train reached Patna at 6 o’clock, Upadhyay ji was not in it.
- The body of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay ji was seen by liver man Ishwar Dayal at 3.30 in the night near pillar 1267, away from Mughalsarai station. He informed the Assistant Station Master about this.
- Railway police reached there, officers named Ram Prasad and Abdul Ghafoor reached there but the doctor arrived after 6 o’clock and declared him dead and till now no one knew that this body was of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
- Banamali Bhattacharya, who worked at the station, was the first to recognize Pandit ji.
- CBI investigated the case and two accused Ram Awadh and Bharat Lal were produced before the court.
- They had admitted that they had thrown Deendayal Upadhyay, who was protesting against theft, down from a moving train – Ram Awadh and Bharat Lal
- But the court acquitted both the accused in the murder case due to lack of evidence.
- Balraj Madhok, who was one of the leading thinkers of Jan Sangh at that time, had described the death of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay as a political murder.
- Nanaji Deshmukh also described his murder as a political conspiracy as he had intelligence documents.
